ONE OF OUR MOST FRUITFUL OUTREACHES!

A SHORT-TERM MISSION TRIP

into a "foreign culture"

IN STATEVILLE PRISON'S NRC UNIT

On the first Saturday morning of each month, we visit "locked-down" inmates, cell-to-cell, in Stateville's NRC Unit, offering literature & prayer.   These inmates are recently-sentenced to prison, in the process of being classified, before being assigned to their "home prison" for the remainder of their sentence.  In the NRC, the inmates have no TV, no radio, no nothing, except the literature we take to them.  They are very receptive to our visits, and very thankful for the literature and prayer we offer.

To qualify, you must be 18 or older, with no felony convictions.  You must provide - six weeks in advance - your SSN & DOB for a security clearance.  We limit the teams for each Saturday to 10.  WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS!  To sign up, please see the instructions at the end of this page.

On the day of the trip, we will meet for a short time of training & prayer at 8 AM at the McDonald's Restaurant, 778 South Weber Road, Romeoville IL 60446 (Renwick & Weber).  I expect to out of the prison by Noon.

Now, I cannot provide literature for everyone - you need to bring literature with you, and something with which you can carry the literature!  You must use clear containers, or containers easily inspected.

I suggest 75-100 paperback books and/or magazines.  Please, no hardback or leather-bound books.  The "best-received" books are novels, biographies, mysteries.  I prefer "Christian books," but of course, others are certainly acceptable, as long as they're morally clean, and they're 3/4 of an inch thick or skinnier.  (They have to fit under the door.) Bibles & New Testaments are great!  (Please avoid "micro-print.)

As far as collecting literature:  I suggest telling your church what your doing & what the need is (bulletin announcement? pulpit announcement?), encourage people to "weed" their home libraries. set a marked box in an appropriate location, & pray that God would move upon the folks to donate books &  magazines. (Phil. 4:6,19).

Please don't forget to remove all address labels from the magazines.  (Staples are OK. Paperclips are not.)

I will supply you with tracts to be distributed.

Please do not wear shorts or "open-toed" shoes.  Cellphones, pagers, knives, etc. are not allowed in the facility.  You WILL need to have your driver's license with you!
